Finally, without further ado, here it is; the making of our outfits. Thanks everyone for all your patience.
The idea for a specially made outfit already started way before the European tour was announced. How funny would it be to have a unique outfit? Wouldn't that make the whole experience even more glam? Wouldn't it give that extra touch?
We figured we had some time to find that out, we didn't expect that GNT (Glam Nation Tour) would hit Europe. Or so we thought... until early september when the European leg of the tour was announced.
This meant that we needed to hurry if we wanted to have those outfits ready in time. 2 months is not much, especially if you haven't fully figured out what the outfit you want to wear should look like. On top of that: what if the costume designer we wanted to go to did not have time to make 2 outfits?
I have known the shop that we were hoping to create our outfit for years. It's a tiny fantasy/goth/movie props shop. I have done some modelling work for them (and will do so again soon :-) ) and I know they deliver perfect quality in their costumes they create. There was not a doubt in my mind; they were the ones who needed to create our outfits.
So, on one rainy afternoon Leonie (Kantharion) and I made our way to 'Lord of Magic' with plenty of ideas in our head and even more hopes in our heart that they would accept those same crazy ideas.
We both knew what we wanted; Leonie wanted a 'female version' of the coat Adam wears during the first few numbers of the show:
And I wanted a catsuit, similar to the one 'Brian Slade' wore in the movie Velvet Goldmine:
Of course they accepted our ideas, they loved it. In fact, before we even left the shop, they came up with a lot of their own ideas that could enhance the outfits, give it an even more glam feel to it.
It didn't take long for a first sketch came our way and we could not believe it how perfect it fit with our ideas.
When I saw my own first sketch, I decided right there and then that THAT was what I would want to have signed at the meet&greet. The costume designer was so honored that she promised me a better drawing for Adam to sign. Is that cool or what?
About 3 weeks later we scheduled our first fitting. I was actually nervous! Haha. We glammed ourselves up but expected to see nothing more than a few fabrics that in the end would become our outfits. Yet when we arrived we were stunned. Mine was practically finished!
My waist and legs needed to be tightened a little more and my shoulders weren't done, but this was close to what it was going to look like in the end.
Because Leonie's outfit was a little more difficult than mine, hers was of course not done, but you could start to see what it was going to look like.
Exactly one week later, we had our second fitting. It was only 2 weeks until GlamNation would hit Amsterdam, but we were not even close to worried, especially not after that fitting one week earlier. And of course we were not dissapointed...
All that needed to be done on my outfit still were my shoulders and the bottoms of my legs. But that was it! Yay!
This time, Leonie's coat was also almost done. Even her initial L with the Eye of Horus that would grace the back of her coat was done.
The costume designer promised us that both outfits would be ready exactly 1 week before GN Amsterdam (20 November), that was only 1 week away, woohoo.
And boy, were they ready... more than ready!
For some reason we forgot to take pictures of the back of my outfit... why didn't we think of that too cause the back is just as amazing...
And here she is, our heroine (sorry Chris, we never had our picture taken with you, but we are still just as grateful to you too :-) ), the costume designer Jaschenka. Thank you so much for all your patience and your input of ideas. The next idea for glamfit is already in my head, ye be warned haha.
Adam loved our outfits, thought they were amazing and that was our mission accomplished; to have Mr. Glam himself say what we already knew :-)
(Jaschenka, Adam loved the drawing, said it was so cool! Again, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you :-) )
The only thing missing for now is a pic of Leonie and myself together. I can't believe we forgot to take one. Luckily we have made some amazing friends and they did take one, as soon as I have it, I will post it here.
