Aftermath 23112010 @ Xtra, Zurich

Have you lost your way?
Livin' in the shadow of the messes that you made
And so it goes
Everything inside your circle starts to overflow
Take a step before you leap
Into the colours that you seek
You'll get back what you give away
So don't look back on yesterday

Wanna scream out
No more hiding
Don't be afraid of what's inside
Gonna tell ya you'll be alright
In the Aftermath
Anytime anybody pulls you down
Anytime anybody says you're not allowed
Just remember you are not alone
In the Aftermath

You feel the weight
Of lies and contradictions that you live with every day
It's not too late
Think of what could be if you rewrite the role you play
Take a step before you leap
Into the colours that you seek
You give back what you give away
So don't look back on yesterday

Wanna scream out
No more hiding
Don't be afraid of what's inside
Gonna tell ya you'll be alright
In the Aftermath
Anytime anybody pulls you down
Anytime anybody says you're not allowed
Just remember you are not alone
In the Aftermath
In the Aftermath

Before you break you have to she'd your armor
Take a trip and fall into the glitter
Tell a stranger that they're beautiful
So all you feel is love, love
All you feel is love, love

Wanna scream out
No more hiding
Don't be afraid of what's inside
Wanna tell you you'll be alright
In the Aftermath

Wanna scream out
No more hiding
Don't be afraid of what's inside
Gonna tell ya you'll be alright
In the Aftermath

Anytime anybody pulls you down
Anytime anybody says you're not allowed
Just remember you are not alone
In the Aftermath
In the Aftermath
Gonna tell ya you'll be alright
In the Aftermath
In the Aftermath
Just remember you are not alone

Meeting 'n' Greeting in Zurich

After almost a week, it's about time I sit down and write my story. Can't even believe it's almost a week already...

On monday, me and Kantharion left for our big journey. We went by car because, let's be honest, that's just the most fun. You can do whatever you want, be as crazy as you like, just make sure that the driver of the two pays attention to the road and doesn't crash her car into someone else's.

We had so much fun underway. Laughed till our sides hurt, talked till our mouths went dry and sang along to songs until... well, until we arrived really (and got some very funny reactions to our singalongs from passer-by's :-) )

At around dinnertime we arrived at our destination; my brother and his wife. My brother moved to Switzerland about 8 years ago, which was one of the reasons why we thought of going to the Zurich show before any other show (because Amsterdam wasn't announced until really late). It was a great excuse to visit my brother and his wife whom I had not seen for a few months already. We had a great evening and a fantastic meal. It was so great to see them again.

The next morning was weird; we finally made it to the day we had been thinking about for 2 months now yet it didn't feel like it yet. It felt like we still had 2 more months to wait, we couldn't really believe that day finally came.

We took our time getting ready, we weren't in any rush because of getting in lines or anything. I couldn't believe it when both my make-up AND my hair looked like it was supposed to look (usually in situations like these at least one of the two decides to play with me and not work out at all).

(Kantharion getting ready)

(me working on my glittery eyeliner)

(Make-up done, but pre-glitterspray and just before we put our outfits on)

At around 2 we left for Zurich. Nerves were growing, this was really happening now. It didn't take too long to get to Zurich, my brother actually lives pretty close to it. We had a blast walking around the city center wearing our outfits and all glittered up. You sure get a lot of looks from people, haha.

We decided to just wait at the bar of the venue and have some late lunch. There wasn't really anything more we could do anyway. To celebrate the whole trip and our friendship (which is pretty special, I can tell you :-) ), we toasted with champagne.

(A toast to glitter, to friendship and to the adventure still to come (just noticed this was still pre-glitterspray))

At the bar we met the first fans already. That's the great thing about being an Adam-fan, you recognize other fans pretty easily, even if they are not wearing fan-shirts. Glitter and glam galore give one away without even trying to ;-). I loved meeting everyone, everyone was fantastic.
For the m&g we all gathered at the hotellobby attached to the venue. I met so many incredible people there, including Rolando (if you don't know who Rolando is, here is a picture of us together ;-))

(left to right; Kantharion, Rolando, me)

'Brother of' and organizer of the m&g Neil Lambert, came out to us at around 5.30 pm to let us know when and where to meet so at 6pm we stood outside, waiting for Neil or anyone else to pick us up. 6pm came and went and finally at 6.15 we were picked up and brought inside the venue. The m&g was to take place in the lobby, but they needed to hurry because the venue would not wait any longer than past 7pm sharp to open their doors. Why it took both Neil and Adam so long to come out anyway no one will ever know (Adam is a diva, we all know that, but Neil...???)

Eventually Adam finally came out, looking fabulous yet very tired. I actually really felt sorry for him to be out with all of us. It's close to the end of the tour and it is clearly wearing him out right now.

We decided to be at the end of the row because of our costumes (which I will finally show in a next blog, promise), which meant we had a little while to watch him work. I love that. He clearly does love his work and meeting the people who got him to where he is today. He greets everyone like a close friend he has not seen for quite some time and takes interest in whatever he or she has to show him, no matter what it is. I could have stood there for hours, just watching him 'do his thing', couldn't have cared if my turn never came at all even.

But our turn did come eventually. Unfortunately, it was already 7pm and the venue really did not wait one more second with opening their doors. This meant that our m&g was rushed. Neil was really nervous, told Adam time and time again that he needed to hurry, but Adam didn't care. Pictures needed to be taken and stuff was going to be signed.

Adam really is a sweetheart. He greeted me with a big hug, as if we were lifelong friends ‘how ARE you?’
Even though there was hardly time because of people already coming in, he did take time to give us not only our individual picture, but one with the 3 of us as well, which was my big hope.
My individual picture with him was fantastic, he was so warm and soft and oh so cuddly, just like a cuddly teddybear ;-)
He told us he loved our outfits and ‘you two look gorgeous, really’. He told Kantharion that he loved her coat and the back with her initial and eye of horus was ‘amazing’ and her walking cane was fantastic.
I brought a drawing that the costumedesigner drew for Adam to sign and told me ‘that is fantastic, I love this’ and signed it quickly but perfectly.
Because there was no time for us anymore, Kantharion had to rush her gifts, but even then he took time to look at what she gave, even if she didn’t see that happening (don’t worry sweetie, I did see it :-) )
And that was when it was time to litterally RUN. Fans were running past us and if we wanted to be at the front we needed to get out of there. Adam was rushing just as much, which was funny to see, they were all hurrying to get everything and get out of there too.
We managed to get the first and second row (I was actually between 1st and 2nd; just not 1st, but not really 2nd either).
The opening act was.... well.... Let's just say; 'very German' and leave it at that. I'm not a big fan of German languaged music (except for Rammstein, they ROCK!!!), so the opening act took far too long for me.

But finally, it was time for the lights to go out a second time, the band came on and I saw a feathery hat and the first few notes of  Voodoo were played. I couldn't believe it, I was there a second time. Adam still looked extremely tired, but he was still enjoying the show. I even thought the slower songs were sung more beautifully (Aftermath had me crying this time, instead of 'just a lump in my throat' like it did in Amsterdam). Best moment of the night was having 'Mad World' as an encore, which he had not done in over 2 months! and which he sang right in front of us.

But after Mad World, it was all over... The Glam Nation Tour ended right there and then for me. but It could not have been more perfect.

We decided to wait around backstage and try to meet the rest of the band as well. We had gotten to know them through the  tour and the fans over the past months and they became as much part of the entire experience as Adam had been. Personally I wanted to meet the drummer most because of my son. He wants to be a drummer as well, so how cool would it be to meet one of the best drummers ever.

In the end we met the entire band and dancers, except for the 2 male dancers. Everyone was fantastic, all were so nice and the drummer Isaac turned out to be the sweetest. We talked for quite a while and even took OUR picture, haha.
Here are my pictures with the drummer and one of the female dancers. If you want to see the others as well, just let me know and I will post them gladly ;-) (if you're wondering why I did not post my pic with the infamous Tommy; he wasn't really 'into it' that night, so in the pic he doesn't look like his usual self)

(Isaac Carpenter, the drummer)

(Brooke Wendle, dance choreographer and just plain HOT ;-) )

The next day, it was already time for us to head back to Holland. We couldn't believe that the day we had been waiting for for so long went by so fast. We still had an amazing trip back though. We talked even more than on the trip TO Switzerland, maybe sang a little less, but had an amazing time anyway. If it is even possible, we became even closer friends on that journey home.

We both decided that with a next tour (which will probably take about 1.5 yrs for Europe!) we are doing this all over again. If we are going to do a whole new outfit, we don't know, but a meet and greet? Definitely! If only for just the fun we have had over the last few months and because of everyone we have met through it (can't remember all of your names, but it was amazing meeting you anyway :-) ).

Now, without further ado... here they are! My pictures with Adam!! The first one is our 'group picture', second is 'just' me & Adam.

Adam Lambert Purple Haze/Whole Lotta Love Amsterdam 112010

And the encore...

warning: do not watch if easily offended by openly gay kissing!!!

Adam Lambert Aftermath Amsterdam 112010 .m4v

Here is the song that gave me goosebumps and a lump in my throat. Just watch and enjoy, you'll love it, I promise...

'Epic' doesn't cover it!

Last night truly was THE best concert I have ever been to. Adam Lambert performed his Glam Nation Tour at Paradiso, Amsterdam yesterday and 'epic' does not even begin to cover that night. His vocals were unbelievably good, hitting every single high note without a problem. He has 'entertainer' written all over him. He got the crowd going with ease and just a single look got the audience to go insane.

But let's start at the beginning, shall we?

I got up pretty early, because beauty takes time, you know? ;-)
Got my make-up and hair done and that was when it was finally time to put that outfit on, a catsuit in black and purple with matching long gloves. It was just perfect and it really gave an extra glam-touch to that whole day.

After picking up my sister and Leonie (@kantharion), we went on our way to Amsterdam. At times exceeding the speed limit 'just a little bit'. But hey, we were on a mission, we needed to be at the venue in time to get special numbers which they were handing out (which in the end turned out to be useless...).

Paradiso is gorgeous. It's a very old church turned into concert hall. When we arrived, my first thought was that it was so perfect for an artist such as Adam.

At the venue we met up with a Dutch lady who has lived in America for already 20 years, Irene (@lizard eyes) and she was amazing. We had e-mailed over the last few months already and finally meeting up was just fantastic

(from left to right Irene (@lizard eyes), my sister Cynthia, Leonie (@kantharion) and me (@nietjev of course ;-) )

(Irene's coat :-) )

Thank goodness it wasn't as cold as we feared it would be, but still, we were happy when they finally opened the doors... though the actual getting inside was hell. People were pushing and shoving as if their lives depended on it and for what? I still don't understand....

But finally inside, we had a fantastic spot, to the side on the right with a topspot view of the stage. The wait wasn't as bad or as tiring as usual. The pre-show music played was glamtastic and all songs appropriately very sexy.

Finally... the lights went out, the band and dancers came on stage, music started playing and there he was... The man I had admired for over a year and a half now. Flawless from note one. This is why I have admired him for so long now, this is what it was all about and he made it more than worth every single second.

That he is a true perfectionist showed when he got frustrated when the sound was not perfect. Secret communication with his soundcrew (back turned to the stage and signals going back and forth) showed that he was not happy that the sound was not perfect. To us as an audience it only enhanced the song he was performing because his frustration made the song even better and more fierce ('Sleepwalker' is quite a fierce song already, so that made it all the more perfect)

But as soon as he was happy with the sound, he went wild! He joked, he chatted and he truly sang his heart out! He showed the Adam I had seen in so many YouTubes already, an open and free-minded entertainer who doesn't care what people think of him or his openly gay sexuality

My favorite song of the night was 'Aftermath', one of my favorite songs about how hard it is to come out. I stood mesmerized with a lump in my throat, the lyrics hitting me even more than when I listen to them on the album.

The encore was really the icing on the cake. He started with 'Purple Haze', an old Jimmi Hendrix classic, complete with joint in his hand! And last but definitely not least 'Whole Lotta Love' a Led Zeppelin oldie...

I'll try to post vids of a few of the songs, probably Aftermath and the entire encore.

Tomorrow, me and Leonie will drive off to Switzerland where we are lucky enough to experience this show once more and to top it off, we are going to meet this amazing man, but I'll tell you about that when we get back.

Photo's of our outfits will follow after Zurich. We want to see the m&g pictures first :-)

Sneak peak ;-)

A girl has got to keep some surprises ;-)

Luister heel goed...

Even weer de trotse mama uithangen.

Ongeveer 2.5 dag later in mijn geval.

Gatverdamme...
